How to style the bell sleeved shirt…in Macau
Mr D and I cheekily hatched a plan to escape the city mid-week. Winning + grinning! So, on Wednesday evening we set sail for the bright lights, Portuguese chicken and ringing pokie machines of Macau! Fun, indeed.
Of course I couldn’t fathom leaving behind my newest summer companion: the elegant, minimalist and on-trend H&M baby blue bell-sleeved shirt (BBBSS).
Such a delightful character this guy: so crisp and light. AND he has flared sleeves and over-sized cuffs, to boot. This man has his *&%# sorted.
BBBSS is happiest when paired with wide-leg navy cotton trousers and leopard print heels. There is a certain je ne sais quoi about him, don’t you think?
Upon arrival, we made a beeline for Macau’s old town (Centro Histórico/澳門歷史城區), a Unesco World Heritage site – it was pretty and charming with its European style buildings and famous Portuguese egg tarts. BBBSS was having a ball. Look at him jump!
BBBSS was an expert at protecting my arms from the hot Macanese sun. Such a gentleman. *swoon*
A jaunty wave from BBBSS.
We skipped up the stairs to the Ruins of St Paul’s Church. Such flair. I’m smitten.
Side note: at the top of the stairs there is a fort to climb which offers views of the Macau peninsula. Keen beans be prepared to sweat like you’ve never sweat before. BBBSS is too gentile to participate in what quickly becomes a wet t’shirt competition. Shame.
…but, wow! Those crowds did test our patience. So we dashed off down a little road in search of air-con and a cerveja.
Although he likes to glam up most of the time, BBBSS occasionally likes to dress things down. In Macau he, appropriately, tends towards the platform espadrille – on this occasion, a nice brown leather version from H&M with braided jute trim. So effortlessly chic and functional. A+.
BBBSS was pretty excited to be heading home after a long, sweltering, wonderful day in Macau. Unfortunately, he was too tired to join us for dinner at A Lorcha. He would have loved the fresh clams in garlic and parsley broth – I did! This quaint Portuguese restaurant is an institution and certainly worth a visit if you’re ever in Macau.
How do you style your bell sleeved shirt? Do you prefer espadrilles or pumps with this outfit?
