How to get tickets to London Fashion Week

Irislillian.com is relatively new by blogging standards, so I assumed I would have zero chance of getting tickets to a London Fashion Week last year. As well enjoying all-you-can-eat street style, I ended up sitting front row at these 10 shows and gained backstage access too. Here’s a quick rundown of my week.

I’m dying to share all my tips & tricks about how to get tickets to London Fashion Week. And, if you’re not getting any love from the ticket gods, there are HEAPS of other ways to get involved and create your own fashion week experience.

1. Be authentic – How to get tickets to London Fashion Week

Be mindful of the countless hours and the blood, sweat and tears each designer has invested into creating their collections and shows. Instead of taking the scattergun approach and issuing blanket requests to all, take your time to figure out which designers will really resonate with your readers and be ready to explain why. Read up: study the website and the past collections, learn about the designers’ backgrounds, flick through their Instagram feeds,  Pinterest boards and Twitter convos. 2. Back yourself and just ask – How to get tickets to London Fashion Week

Research: done. Now you’re primed to draft the all important email. This is where your inner critic might start ramping up: “why on earth would they give you a ticket!?” Ignore it.  Deep down you know the value that you add and the quality of your offering. Just, back yourself and do it.
Once you’ve smashed through that hurdle, find out the name of the brand’s press rep –  if the press list here doesn’t come through with the goods, do a shout out and ask on Twitter.

Next, draft a brief email explaining how the brand will feature on your website/platform/social media; why your readership will be interested in the feature and how the brand will benefit (this is key) – make it personal, make it short. No spelling mistakes.

3. Help out – How to get tickets to London Fashion Week

Fashion houses are always looking for an extra pair of hands leading up to and during Fashion Week, so reach out to them.  You’ll get direct exposure to the inner-workings of the beast that is producing a fashion show. Amaze-balls. Plus, you will probably get some insane content.

4. Hang out – How to get tickets to London Fashion Week

Figure out where the shows are being held (monitor street style photographers’ Instagram and Twitter accounts) and set up camp on the sidewalk out front (It’s London; pack an umbrella). As the uber chic attendees file in, get snapping.  Rain, hail and/or sludge, it will all be worth it for that street style edit you’ll publish after the show.

5. Get into the spirit of London Fashion Week! – How to get tickets to London Fashion Week

The whole city seems to be embracing the LFW spirit this season with public events popping up all over London. Here are my top picks:

  1. Check out London Fashion Week Festival
  2. Watch the official LFW shows from Carnaby Street
  3. Attend a fashion show at The Oxford Fashion Studio
  4. Be the ultimate consumer: snap up your Burberry and Tom Ford looks straight from the runway, online or in-store. The same day as the Show. Boom.

If you’re like Steph from Coco Chic Blog and all the fashion week hype just isn’t your thang, call it. More power to ya! Then watch the shows from the comfort of your own desk/couch/bed/toilet – The British Fashion Council will be live streaming select shows here.

What’s your view on the fashion week hype? Would you ever want to attend a fashion show or is it not really your thang?

It’s such an important philosophy to adopt when you’re jumping straight into the deep. Have you had one of these moments when your negative nelly comes to town?

Hey GH, it’s a great way to look at things. Have you ever doubted yourself but then though “bugger it, I’m going to do it anyway!” and then succeeded?

If you don’t ask, you’ll never find out.. such a good philosophy.. and after all in the worst case you will get a “No”. Not so terrifying after all :)I enjoyed reading this post.
    Have a good day,

Hey Victoria, exactly! That’s how I felt. I was pretty convinced that everyone would say no, but thought ‘hey, at least I got some practice at constructing a good email.’ In the end it paid off. Do you follow this philosophy yourself or are you working on it?
